The Summer issue of the magazine Bay Nature concluded with this advertisement on the back page. I was really struck by it, and I wanted to share it with you, my friends and neighbors.
The advertisement is for an organization in Berkeley that specializes in helping to reduce waste.
Now, if you go back and look at our GHG Inventory, you will see that waste is NOT our biggest problem. Our biggest problems are Transportation and Buildings. And, given the formulas that MCEP (the organization that does our annual inventory) uses to allocate emissions in doing the inventories, no individual action on this front is going to make THAT much of a difference.
Nonetheless, each one of us must do everything we can, both in our personal lives, and as citizens with an ability to impact policy, to support the changes we must collectively make - if we follow the science - NOW.
So, I intend to visit Urban Ore and learn more about what they do and how they work and how they might help the people of Fairfax. With the demise of our local Fairfax Away Station, this looks like a good alternative. I know I have some excess building materials I can't use. I have been trying to figure out what to do with them, and I have been dreading the trip to the dump. Now, I don't need to make that trip, I can make a better trip.
Together, we can do this.
Join us; we need the help of every person in this town.
